The Butterfly Conservatory - Surround yourself With Butterflies in Niagara Falls
A trip to the Butterfly Conservatory will give you a new outlook on the world of butterflies!
One snowy day in February Tara and I decided to make the short trip to the butterfly Conservatory and shake off the winter Blas.
Even though there are a lot of winter activities to do in the Falls, only a few of them include a warm, tropical setting like the conservatory does.
The building itself is located on some of the most beautifully manicured grounds and is maintained by the Niagara Parks Commission and is very unique. The large glass dome of the building can be seen as you walk up to it.
Upon entering the main foyer of the building there is a large window showcasing the main waterfall in the center of the tropical landscape further inside. We make our way into the actual butterfly area and right away notice how warm and humid it is, a great change from the winter weather outside.
From the moment we walk into the main tropical area to the moment we leave we were very surprised at just how many butterflies there actually are.
As we walk along the pathways that wind their way through the jungle setting we were constantly stopping to take photos. Every time we turned around there was another combination of butterflies fluttering around us that keeping up with the species names was nearly impossible. For anyone wanting to find the names of the various butterflies they see there is a large chart in the front entrance area that makes it easy to do so.
The time we spent in there flew by and before we knew it we had spent two hours walking the pathways taking video and photos of just about every corner of the place.
If you are planning to go I would recommend taking a camera as you will definitely want to be taking pictures. Another thing to keep in mind is that although there is a place to hang your jacket before you enter the main area, it is unsupervised and therefore anyone could have access to any personal items you leave behind. I would suggest that you leave any valuables in the car if you can.
