Parades, Parties and Fireworks Marking the Two Countries Big Days
Every year in the early summer there are two days of celebrations that bring the United States and Canada together in mutual celebrations. These two days of celebrations help bring the border towns of both countries closer together in the form of parties, concerts, parades and fireworks.
Canada day marks the anniversary for the creation of the Dominion of Canada back in 1867. In 1968, Canada’s Governor General proclaimed that every July 1st would mark the anniversary of the confederation of Canada. Now, over 144 years later, Canadians across the country celebrate Canada Day more than ever in local festivals and backyard everywhere.
In Niagara Falls, Canada Day celebrations are being held in many locations and parks throughout the city.
During the day, Optimist Park in the Falls will have family friendly music and other festivities held throughout the day beginning with a parade that winds its way through the streets of Niagara Falls and ends at the park.
Later in the evening many parks and street gatherings will help light up the sky with fireworks with the big event happening over the Falls at around 10 pm.
For any American travelers visiting the Falls around this time can also enjoy fireworks over the Falls on Friday and Sunday evenings to help them celebrate their 4th of July Independence.
Another option for anyone visiting Niagara Falls during this time of year is the Friendship Festival in the old town of Fort Erie.
Located just about twenty minutes down the highway from the Falls, the Fort Erie Friendship festival was created for the specific reason to help strengthen the bond between the US and Canada by celebrating both Independence Day and Canada Day popular live bands of both countries and Fireworks over the Niagara River.
Needless to say, anyone who chooses to visit Niagara Falls during these early days of summer will have a lot of options as to what to do.
