The “temporary” Casino Niagara, which has now been open since 1996 has just received a life extension from the Ontario government at the eleventh hour.
With its lease due to expire in March of this year, it was unclear what was going to happen to long standing attraction now that the newer and permanent Fallsview Casino was firmly in place and generating revenue for the city and province.
Since the gaming complex first opened in the nineties it’s lease had been renewed for five years at a time and was supposed to be shut down at the end of its lease after the new Fallsview opened its doors. However, after looking at the success of Casino Niagara the Ontario Government has decided to renew the lease for a full fifteen more years.
This is great for the city, many local employees and for businesses and property owners around the old casino because now they can plan on any expansions or new construction that had been put on hold as the provincial government decided what to do with the property.
The new lease guarantees 15 more years for the casino and that means 15 more years of solid pedestrian traffic walking to and from the casino through and around the Clifton Hill area.
