The Hydro Teslatron

When walking into the entrance of the Fallsview Casino Resort, the first thing you will see upon entering the building is the large flowing art piece called the Hydro-Teslatron.

Named after Nikola Tesla, a Yugoslavian inventor and the man who developed alternating current or “AC” electricity and helped create the first North American hydro station by using the Natural power produced by Niagara Falls.

The 45 foot tall Hydro-Teslatron flows calmly with water cascading down into funnels and around the base of the structure representing the normally calm and controlled functions of the hydro turbines. It remains as a quiet fountain most of the time but once in a while it will begin an 8 minute show demonstrating a scenario where a miscommunication between two maintenance workers at the station can lead to bad outcomes.

The show begins with the fountain glowing blue with more than 760 thousand LED lights surrounding the structure. The water begins to flow harder with over seven thousand gallons of recycled water and gives the appearance of going out of control. The LEDs begin to change into a fiery red and what appears to be electrical bolts shoot out onto the ceiling with the use of lasers, 2 million feet of fibre optics and other amazing lighting effects.

All this while the audience hears the voices of two men trying to resolve the problem before it becomes more out of control.

Eventually the whole show ends with everything shutting down, resetting and going back to normal, but really, this is a show that has to be seen to get the sense of how much work really went into this 6.5 million dollar show piece.

The video below will show you a short clip of the Hydro Teslatron in operation. Since it was late in the evening the 8 minute show was not playing.
