Mandarin Buffet Restaurant Niagara Falls
Our Review of the Popular Restaurant Chain

Mandarin Buffet entranceEnter only if you are very hungry.” This is what the sign on the front of the door of the Mandarin Buffet in Niagara Falls should read!

A couple years ago we dined at the Mandarin in St.Catharines which is only a short 15 minute drive from the Falls. We had driven many times by the Mandarin located right beside the Niagara Square and Cineplex Odeon Theatre. Last weekend we decided to Seating area of the Mandarincheck it out. We assumed that the dining experience would be similar to the St.Catharines location – great food selection, friendly, helpful wait staff and good value since the restaurant is a chain.

We arrived at the Niagara Falls location at about 7pm. There were Seafood at the Mandarinmany hostesses at the front entrance to greet us. Actually we almost felt famous for a few seconds with all the attention! As the hostess led us to our table in one of the five rooms available, she asked us if we had ever dined at that location,A food station at the Mandarin pointed out the restrooms and seated us in a nice area of the restaurant against a divider wall under a pink blossom tree. The nice thing about this restaurant is there are no bad seats. There is plenty of room and the buffet is just steps away!

A waitress arrived and took our drink orders. We were invited to make our way over to the buffet whenever we were ready. Normally I’m not a huge fan of buffets because I feel like Bread station at the Mandarinsometimes there is not always proper attention to the food and it often sits for a long period of time, getting cold. This was definitely not the case at the Mandarin! Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Let me give you more of the details…..

So we started out at the salad bar and bread area. A large selection of cold salads (approximately 20) including house, caesar, carrot, Crab legs at the Mandarinmushroom, coleslaw, bean and other melodies. Each dish was small and replenished quickly by the large number of chefs on duty. A small station beside the salad bar included different types of breads and dinner rolls. There was great attention to presentation and décor in this section. I’ve included some pictures we took during our visit.

After our salads we made our way back to the buffet area for our main course. The selection was overwhelming! Decisions, decisions! Each dish was clearly labeled and food types were grouped together. There was something to please everyone – even the picky eater! We dined on roast beef, lo-mein noodles, grilled vegetables, rice and roasted potatoes – to name a few! Tim and I agreed that our favorite was the spiced beef with vegetables. This dish had the perfect amount of heat and included chopped onions and green peppers. The beef was so tender and delicious! If you have dinner at the Mandarin this is a must have!

Tim doesn’t like seafood, but I love it so I had to indulge! An item that is advertised at the Mandarin is their all you can eat crab legs. Since crab legs are so popular, this item was replenished quite often so they were always warm and fresh. There was seafood sauce and melted butter for dipping. Along with the crab legs, there were other seafood selections such as battered fish, hot and cold shrimp, calamari and coconut/tempura shrimp.

We enjoyed every last bite of our meals in the relaxing dining room. The background music was quiet – muzak is the proper name I believe. We were attended to by our waitress quite frequently. She refilled our lemon water and cleared our plates after each course.

I was so impressed with the food quality and presentation up to this point in our experience, I could only imagine what would be available for desert!

We made our way over to the beautifully presented dessert buffet. Normally in restaurants, I don’t even look at the dessert menu, however, here I couldn’t resist! A smorgasbord of delicious delights! There were multiple pies, cakes, squares and confections. Jello cubes, chocolate covered strawberries and bananas, fruit trays were also available. Along side the dessert area there was a freezer with eight different kids of ice cream and sherbet. Butterscotch and chocolate sauce were available to make a great sundae!

Our waitress came by when she noticed we were finishing our dessert and offered us tea and/coffee. We decided to just request the bill. It came to $54 Canadian with tax. This included both our meals and unlimited soft drinks. For the value and amount of food we had, we felt this was well worth the price.

Overall our dining experience was excellent and we would definitely recommend the Mandarin in Niagara Falls to all travelers and locals looking for a great meal!
