Niagara Parks Customer Appreciation Day May 2nd, 2011
Parks Commission starts off the tourism season with a weekend of great discounts
Niagara Parks held their annual Customer Appreciation Day on May 2nd 2011. We first heard about the event on the 610am news radio station. The weather in St.Catharines was rainy but we figured we would check it out as often Niagara Falls doesn’t receive the same weather conditions as surrounding cities.
There were a variety of things going on throughout the city that day, one being that Niagara Parks had closed a section of the Parkway in an effort to encourage visitors and locals to walk, run or ride right close to the Falls. The Parkway was blocked off by police vehicles from 9am-6pm. Unfortunately I think many people thought the section was blocked off due to construction or other reasons as there were only a few people taking advantage of this. The weather I’m sure also played a part.
During Customer Appreciation Day all Niagara Parks attractions including Niagara’s Fury, Journey Behind the Falls, and White Water Walk were at a low admission price of $5 each. Parking at all Niagara Parks lots was $5 for the day (normally $14-$20 depending on the time of year) as well. We also took advantage of this.
Table Rock’s Burger Town inside the Table Rock Centre offered a meal deal of a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken burger with fries and a drink for only $5. We enjoyed this after we went on the Niagara’s Fury attraction. Elements on the Falls Restaurant which is also in the same complex had $5 tapas all day.
Niagara Parks gift shops were selling baseball caps and stainless steel water bottles for $5 as well. They were plain hats and water bottles with a “Niagara Falls” logo on them. I nice souvenir if you are a tourist.
We spent $35 CDN in total for the afternoon. This included admission to the Niagara’s Fury and Journey Behind the Falls attractions for both of us, parking and lunch. We also attended the Floral Showcase which was free admission afterwards. This was just a short ½ km walk down the parkway.
Overall this was a great way to spend a Sunday. Hopefully Niagara Parks will include the same deals next year on their name Customer Appreciation Day.
Niagara Parks noted that a portion of the proceeds from the day would be donated to the Greater Niagara General Hospital Foundation and future Walker Family Cancer Its Our Time Campaign.
