We decided to try out this attraction on the Niagara Parks Customer Appreciation Day. This is the one days where admission to all the Niagara Parks Attractions is only $5 each.
Niagara’s Fury is located on the upper level of the Table Rock Center in Niagara Falls on the Niagara Parkway. We purchased our tickets to the attraction as well as our Journey Behind the Falls pass at the main booth of the complex. There are shows running every half hour therefore the wait was short. We made our way to the entrance and waited in line. Within minutes there was quite a crowd behind us. I guess others decided to take advantage of this great deal through Niagara Parks!
We were greeted at the entrance by two staff members, one that was taking our tickets and the other that was handing out blue rain poncho which is basically a one size fits all, thin, plastic cover with holes for your arms and a hood. This is just to keep your clothes from getting wet!We were directed into a theatre area with a large screen. There was a short pre-show animation called “Furry Falls”. The video was cute and lasted about 8 minutes. It felt kinda akward since everyone was standing. I’m sure I would have been able to enjoy the show more if we were sitting since the screen was right above us.
The doors in front of us opened slowly and there was an announcement that no video or recording devices were allowed – so unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the actual show. We walked in onto a large, round platform with posts sticking up to hold on to. Hmmm….was this ride really going to shake us up?
Once everyone was inside the lights went out. We immediately felt the temperature drop. A few lights above us came on and all the sudden what looked like snow started to come down on top of us. The kids loved this! I’m not sure what exactly the substance was....maybe some kind of soap detergent or foam.
As the snow stopped the specially designed 360 degree screen started playing the movie. We were looking down on the Niagara River and moving towards the Falls. We then felt a mist lightly spray us, which turned into droplets coming down from above. This started out pretty light and calm and quickly turned into a full rain storm with thunder and lightening. The winds picked up the floor started rumbling. The platform started to move abit but we didn’t feel unsafe or that we would fall off. There was an employee standing along side if we needed assistance.
The people in front of us got pretty wet but we were just misted. In the movie we were then making our way down the Niagara River. We both liked this part the most because the platform was tilting slightly and with the camera angles we felt as though we were drifting down the river! The multi-sensory experience lasts a total of 6 minutes.
Overall this ride was pretty cool and different from any other ride I have been on. I wouldn’t say it is the most exciting attraction in the Falls but definitely a great choice for families. Due to the floor moving and rumbling, I wouldn’t recommend this ride for older individuals that may have stability problems.
The advertisements for this ride claim it is educational. The short film gives you some facts about Niagara but I would have to say that the attraction provides more entertainment value – especially the ride itself!
