Sleep Cheap Niagara Another Successful Year

Every November, local hotels in the Region get together and put on the event Sleep Cheap - Charities Reap, a fundraising campaign to help local charities.

The goal of the event is to allow Niagara residents, who normally wouldn’t book a room in their area, a chance to stay an evening in a participating hotel at a deeply discounted room. The money raised will then be given to charity.

The idea is great and works well, both raising awareness to the need for donations and giving residents a chance to see views of the city they wouldn’t normally get.

The 2009 hotel rates ranges from $35 and went up to $85 depending on the view and amenities.

The numbers for the 2009 event are now out and it looks like a total of $115,000 was raised. Although this is not a record amount raised, considering how bad the economy had gotten, this total is not bad for just a few days in one month.

The monies will be split between local charities picked by the events organizers.

The popular program was started in 2005 and including this years fundraising efforts will have raised more than $700,000, providing a great boost for Niagara’s charity organizations.

Sleep Cheap Niagara was a great success. Check out more Niagara News.
